Adem Dokmeci - Executive Director/Principal
Welcome back to our GREEN Charter family! We are looking forward to a fantastic 2019--2020 school year. My name is Adem Dokmeci and I have had the privilege of serving the Greenville, Columbia and Spartanburg communities as the Executive Director of GREEN Charter Schools. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Physics, a Master’s in Education and have worked in the field of Education for over 20 years. I enjoy working with children of all ages and have had the good fortune of creating a productive learning environment by starting schools in Florida, New York and South Carolina. When I’m not involved with school activities, I enjoy spending time with my wife and four kids, playing soccer and watching NetFlix and HBO. I am excited for the year to come and can't wait to get to know all of our wonderful students and families!
Ali Polat - Director of IT & Testing
I am thrilled to be a part of the GREEN Charter School family. This school year will be my fifth year at GREEN Charter School as an Assistant Principal. I am very excited to work with such a dedicated staff, hard-working students, and supportive parents.
My undergraduate and Master’s degree is in System Engineering but my passion is education. I also have a Master’s degree in Educational Administration. I have been in education for more 10 years. I am passionate about building upon the success and fulfillment I have already experienced as a teacher, graduation coach and a college counselor.
When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with my daughter. I am grateful to be in GREEN Charter School family. I look forward to another exciting year at GREEN.
Malana Fitzgerald - Lower Campus Director
I have loved being a part of GREEN since it opened its doors in 2013. The growth of our school has been amazing to watch each year. Before relocating to Greenville, I spent 8 years teaching 5th grade Math, serving as a district Math Coach, and math interventionist in Raleigh, NC. At GREEN I taught 4-6th grade Math as well as Pre-Algebra before becoming the Assistant Principal 4 years ago. When not at school, I stay busy being a mom and wife. I have a daughter Decklyn, in 1st grade at GREEN and a son, Tanner who is 3. Along with my husband, we enjoy trying new restaurants and attending events around town. I believe that positive relationships are the key to learning. I look forward to another great year creating these relationships.
Katelin Spagnolo- Lower Campus Assistant Director
My name is Katelin Spagnolo and I am so excited be back here at GREEN Charter School! This will be my third year at GREEN Charter School. My first year here I taught 1-6 Physical Education and helped coach boys middle school soccer. In 2018, I took on an administration role as the Lower School Assistant Director which is also the role I will be serving in this school year. I am originally from Florida. I attended the University of North Florida where I got my Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education K-12 and played Division I soccer. I continued my education at the University of North Florida and got my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership for School Leadership and became certified in three different states.
In 2012, Mr. Adem hired me at River City Science Academy where I taught two years of middle school Physical Education and Health. While I began my teaching career in Florida, in 2014 I moved to Georgia where I taught three years of middle school Physical Education and Health. In July 2017, my husband and I relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, to be closer to family. After residing in Greenville for over two years now, I can truly say that I love it! In my spare time I love visiting with family and friends, traveling the world and playing sports! I am grateful for the GREEN Charter school family. I am looking forward to working with your children and having a successful school year!
John Ozer - Upper Campus DirectorI am happy to join the GREEN Charter School. In the upcoming year, I will be serving as an upper school director. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. I have been involved in education for the past 21 years: eleven years as a teacher, and ten years as a school principal. I mostly taught in high schools when I was in the classroom, and I loved it. During my administrative life, I managed two K-8 schools for seven years and a high school for three years. I enjoy doing hands-on activities, projects, science fairs, and other science-related events.
I have been married to my lovely wife for 17 years, and we have two children. Our daughter is a junior in high school, and our son is in 7th grade. I love watching soccer, seeing new places, and spending time with family and friends.
I am looking forward to having a great year with you.
Lenette Hernandez - Upper Campus
After graduating from Florida International University’s College of Arts and Sciences, I earned my professional teaching certificate and became an educator in 2000. Since then, I have taught language arts at both the middle school and high school levels as well as elective classes such as Public Speaking and Journalism.
In addition to my role as an educator, I have participated in multiple collaborations including school improvement committees, reaccreditation teams, curriculum design groups, and lead teacher within the English department.
During the ten years I spent at my previous school, my status as a veteran educator enabled me to guide new teachers through the joys and challenges of the profession as well as build camaraderie amongst our colleagues and the students we served.
I joined GREEN Charter in 2015 when my family and I decided to relocate to South Carolina. After four years as an ELA teacher, I transferred out of the classroom and joined the administrative team at the upper school.
Brandi Moss - Kindergarten
"Hey ya'll!" My name is Brandi Moss. My family and I LOVE the Greenville area, so it is an awesome feeling to be so involved in our favorite community. I am entering my 16th year teaching and my 5th year at GREEN. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Clemson University (Go Tigers!), and a Master’s degree with a focus on Science Education from Walden University. My husband, Adam, and I are both from the Upstate area. We have two children, Charlie and Stella. We also have two dogs, Carlie Jane and RJ.
Early Childhood is my passion because it is such an extraordinary experience to be involved at the ‘starting line’ of education. In our classroom, a school 'family' atmosphere is always established. We will help each other, cheer for each other, accept each other, and learn from each other. I look forward to working with you and being a part of this exciting journey!
Carole-Anne Craft - Kindergarten

Welcome to GREEN Charter! My name is Carole-Anne Craft. This is my fourth year at GREEN Charter teaching Kindergarten. I have been very blessed to work here these last few years. I graduated from North Greenville University with a BA in Early Childhood Education. I came straight to GREEN and have been here since.
I love teaching little people because they have such a desire to learn. We have lots of fun while we learn too:) From field trips, to science projects, to reading books, and so much more, Kindergarten is always a great place to learn.
Besides teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and dog. I love reading books and watching movies. I drink coffee like its running out in the world. I like riding horses. I am very active in my church. I am obsessed with Disney. And I love spending time with friends and family.
I am excited to have another year at GREEN and am honored to be teaching your children the joy of learning!
Tamara Kilpatrick - Kindergarten
Hello! My name is Tamara Kilpatrick and I teach kindergarten at GREEN Charter School! I graduated with my BA in Early Childhood education from Coastal Carolina University in 2005. I taught kindergarten soon after graduating in Horry County. I moved to Greenville in 2010 to pursue my Masters in Early Childhood and taught 4K for Head Start. I have been at GREEN Charter School since the opening school year in 2013-2014. Other than teaching kindergarten, I also help manage kindergarten assessments and take care of our GREEN chickens. I love being at GREEN Charter and feeling a part of a thriving and innovative school!
Whitney Boyd - KindergartenHi, I am Whitney Boyd and This will be my fifth year at GREEN teaching kindergarten. I graduated from Clemson University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education (Go Tigers!) I’m looking forward to teaching and meeting my wonderful new students for this upcoming year. It’ll be great!
Jordan McClure - Kindergarten Aide
Hey There! My name is Mrs. McClure and this is my fourth year at GREEN as a Kindergarten Aide. I studied Elementary Education at Limestone College. I thoroughly enjoy what I do! It is so rewarding to be a part of your child’s life and journey. Here at GREEN it's our mission to inspire our kids to not only have academic success but to also encourage them to love one another. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my darling husband and our sweet fur baby, Chole. My family and friends mean the world to me so I love to spend time with them. Sara Turner - Kindergarten Aide
Hello! I’m Sara Turner and this is my sixth year at GREEN! I am a k5 aide and after school teacher. I am originally from Orangeburg, SC but moved to Greenville 10 years ago after graduating from Winthrop University. I have a BS in Family and Consumer Sciences-Early Intervention and previously taught k4 for SHARE Head Start. I am married and have 3 dogs that I enjoy taking for walks through downtown. I love teaching k5 and helping them get started on the right foot in their educational journey. I’m looking forward to another great year at GREEN!
Darshita Bhakta - Kindergarten Aide
My name is Darshita Bhakta. These is my fourth year at Green Charter School.I am kindergarten aide and also help with after school care.I have my bachelors degree in accounting. Here at Green i always try to encourage my students to do their best and respect others. I am looking forward to meeting our new group of children this year. I am sure that we will have a great year full of fun times.when I am not at school I enjoy cooking, going to the movies, traveling and spending time with family. My name is Jennifer Molizon. I am a Kindergarten Aide at GREEN Charter School. I am going into my fourth year of teaching here at GREEN. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of our students kindergarten journey. Here at GREEN we strive to create an environment that feels like home. We work with our students to provide them with the education to insure their future success. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my dog Murphy. Susie Whitson - First Grade
Hi, I am Susie Whitson, and I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year here at GREEN Charter School! Our classroom environment will be one where students should feel safe, welcomed, encouraged and valued in order for them to grow and flourish.
This is my first year at GREEN Charter School, but my 15th year in teaching. I have taught grades 1st through 5th. However, most of my teaching career has been in 2nd grade. My Bachelor’s degree is in Elementary Education from USC Upstate and I have a Master’s degree from Anderson University. I continue to further my career and knowledge through various classes, seminars and literature.
Outside of teaching and classes, I enjoy reading, being with friends, playing with my two small dogs Lilly and Louie, volunteering at the food pantry at my church and relaxing. I have been blessed to have my wonderful son, Perry. I look forward to a great year working with you and your precious child!
Kayla Ault - First Grade
Hello everyone! My name is Kayla Ault and this will be my first year at Green Charter, and fifth overall teaching! I am originally from Pennsylvania and moved south to attend college at Western Carolina University. There I majored in Elementary Education with a specialization in Health and Wellness and graduated magna cum laude in 2013. I received my professional teaching certificate, with a highly qualified status, by teaching for 5 years in Beaufort County, SC. I have taught both second grade and first grade, and I am so happy that I can bring my love for Early Childhood Education to a new school! My dad was my inspiration to become a teacher and I knew after watching him create engaging and fun lessons for his kids every day, that teaching was my calling as well. I am just recently moving to Greenville to be near my family and can’t wait to get to know the area and the community here! In my spare time I love to read, spend time with my family, play with my dog and cat, and sing. I am so excited to become a part of the Green family and can’t wait to see what amazing things await for this year!
Stacy Breimayer - First Grade
Hello! My name is Stacy Breimayer and this will be my 21st year in the classroom. I am over the moon excited to be working with such an amazing group of individuals. I am a recent transplant to Greenville by way of northern Michigan. I am looking forward to my first winter without five feet of white powder to plow through. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in science, math, and early childhood education, a master’s degree in reading and literacy, and almost a second in gifted education. I am also a certified Montessori teacher. On weekends and summer vacations, I teach English to children in China via the internet. My husband and I love to spend time hiking and exploring the mountains near our new home.
Ally Rathbone - First Grade
My name is Ally Rathbone and I am so excited to start my teaching journey at GREEN Charter School. I received my Bachelors of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from North Greenville University in 2017. Go Crusaders! I plan on pursuing my Masters Degree within the upcoming year. This will be my third year teaching and my first at GREEN. I have taught grades fifth and second. I am looking forward to teaching first this year. I love creating relationships with my students and watching them grow through out the school year.
I am a native of Greenville County. I grew up and still live in the wonderful community of Blue Ridge. I graduated from Blue Ridge High School in 2013. In my spare time I enjoy watching the Gamecocks, being outside and spending time with my family.

Angela Harmon - 2nd Grade TeacherMy name is Angela Harmon and I am thrilled to be teaching 2nd grade at GREEN Charter School this year! I have a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. I am originally from California and relocated to Greenville 9 years ago. Teaching is my passion, and I have worked in the field of education for over a decade. When I am not in the classroom I enjoy spending time with my husband and our own four children, who are also a part of the GREEN Family! We have had the privilege of calling this school home for 5 years now, and watching it grow each year has been incredible. My hobbies include writing, art, and spending time in nature. I am looking forward to an amazing year of learning, community, and getting to know your precious children!
Suzanne Mahan - 2nd Grade Teacher
My name is Suzanne Mahan and I teach 2nd grade. This will be my fourth year at GREEN Charter and I cannot wait for another great year! I graduated from USC (go Cocks!) then went on to Converse College and received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Outside of school I like to spend time with my husband, our son and our dog; we love to be outside or reading books.
Simone Walter - 2nd Grade teacherMy name is Simone Walter and I’m excited to be returning to GREEN this year! I graduated from The University of South Carolina, worked for several years in Publishing, was a stay-at-home mom, taught preschool, taught 4th grade in Greenville county, and now 2nd grade here at GREEN. I am married to Alex and we have 3 children: Elliott (10th grade at GREEN), Jonah (7th grade at Fisher Middle), and Iris (1st grade at GREEN). I look forward to a wonderful year with your child where it is my mission to provide a fun, safe, hands-on learning environment.
Madison Kane - 2nd Grade teacher
Hello everyone! My name is Madison Kane. I will teach 2nd grade at GREEN Charter this year. I previously taught in Spartanburg and am excited to work closer to my home. I pursued my love of teaching at Winthrop University, where I received my Bachelor’s of Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I love teaching all subjects and using collaboration in the classroom. In my free time, I enjoy reading, walking my dog, and spending time with family. I look forward to an excellent year at GREEN!

My name is Kala Haislip and I've lived my entire life in Greenville County! I am married to Andrew a nurse at Spartanburg Regional. I grew up in the Blue Ridge area and attended North Greenville University. There I obtained my Associates in Science and Bachelors of History in 2010. After working in financial aid for a few years I obtained my Masters in Teaching from Converse College. I began teaching in 2014 and have taught 4th grade (all subjects/Inclusion) for two years and 5th grade (ELA/Social Studies) for two years. This will be my 6th year of teaching and my second year in 3rd grade. I am certified for Middle School Social Studies and Elementary Education. I am working on my Ed.S degree in Literacy and plan on applying this fall for the Ph.D program at Clemson (Go Tigers). I look forward to creating a successful academic year with you and your child!
Emily Whitham - 3rd Grade
My name is Emily Whitham, and I am a proud product of Greenville County. I graduated from Anderson University and got my M.Ed from Southern Wesleyan University. Additionally, I have a Gifted & Talented Endorsement so I can better meet the needs of your child.
I spent the first ten years of my professional teaching career in Anderson County as a departmentalized 5th grade science teacher. For the last five years, I have taught in Greenville County Schools as a 5th grade math and science teacher. I have been trained in guided math, and I believe it's a great way to differentiate instruction to successfully reach all of my students!
My husband, Joe Whitham (a P.E. teacher) and I have been married for 15 years, and we have three beautiful boys: Owen - 5th grade, Garrett - 3rd grade, and Corbin - K5! I love spending time with my family at sporting events, drinking coffee, and reading in my hammock during the summer.
I am so excited about teaching your child math and science in 3rd grade this year! I look forward to a great year at GREEN!
Natalie Anderson - 3rd Grade
I am super excited to begin teaching third grade at GREEN this year! This is my seventh year of teaching. I have taught second, fourth, and fifth grades. I graduated from Anderson University with my Masters in Teaching Elementary Education and from Clemson University with my Bachelors degree in Architecture. This is my second career. I previously worked as an architectural designer at a small Greenville firm for many years. I am married with two sons in high school this year. I also have two cats that are spoiled rotten by everyone. I love to go to the lake, the movies, on walks, read books, watch Netflix, spend time with my husband and children, and watch football. Go Tigers!
Sara Smith - 3rd Grade
My name is Sara Smith. I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Bachelors and Masters in Elementary Education. This year will be my first year teaching third grade at Green Charter. For the past twelve years I have taught a variety of grade levels, but I have prominently taught fifth grade. I spent the first 8 years of my teaching career in the Mobile County Public School System of Mobile, Alabama. Four years ago, my husband's job transferred us here and I have been in the Greenville County Public School System ever since.
My husband, Josh, and I have been married for seven years and have a 2 1/2 year old son named Lucas. I love spending time hiking, swimming, and hanging out with friends.
I am looking froward to teaching your child third grade math and science at Green Charter this year.
Sarah Till - 4th Grade Science
First let me say that I am pleased to be a part of such a great school. I have been at GREEN since the first day and I continue to be amazed by administration, staff, faculty, and the students. My husband, three children, and I have been in Greenville eight years. We love this area.
I studied at North Greenville University and graduated with an AA in Christian Studies. After that, I completed my college career at Gardner-Webb University with a BS in Elementary Education. In my 20 years of teaching, I have taught 4K, K, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th grades. For four and one half years, I directed at two large child development centers. During these years, I developed a heart for the children and their families. I bring that same love to my teaching.
My desires are for the children I teach to never stop learning and to reach for the stars.
Lynn Flake - 4th Grade Reading
I am thrilled to be teaching ELA at GREEN Charter School this year! This is my 7th year teaching. I graduated from Clemson University with my Bachelors in Elementary Education. Before I studied at Clemson, I spent two years at Winthrop University studying special education and dance.
I am originally from Summerville, SC. Currently, I live in Greenville with my husband, and our two little boys! Our oldest is almost three and our youngest will be one this fall. I love to be creative and really enjoy being outside. Some of my hobbies include reading, hiking, camping, and yoga. I LOVE being creative in the classroom and it’s my goal to and help each of my students discover a passion for reading and writing. Students can look forward to an interdisciplinary curriculum filled with challenging, engaging, and enriching experiences in my classroom that will keep them growing and excited to come to school! Thank you for sharing your precious children with me this year. I cannot wait to laugh, learn, and grow with them!
Kelley Koch - 4th Grade Math
My name is Kelley Koch, and I absolutely LOVE working at GREEN! I taught 4th grade in Georgia for two years before moving to Greenville in 2015. This will be my fifth year at GREEN, and I will be continuing to work with my favorite age group, 4th graders!
Outside of the classroom, you will probably find me chasing our rambunctious one-year-old around! I also love anything and everything outdoors. On the weekends, you’ll usually find me at a local farmer’s market, hiking, playing with our two black labs, or running the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
I LOVE making math exciting and hands-on for our children. I am passionate about allowing opportunities for children to explore, create, and problem solve. It is always so much fun to see the passion and curiosity grow as we dive into the school year.
I am truly blessed to work with your children each and every day and am excited to learn and grow right beside them.
Kate Weaver - 4th grade
Hello! My name is Kate Weaver, and I am thrilled to be joining the GREEN family this year! I graduated from Furman University in 2014, and have taught in Greenville County Schools for five years. I am originally from Atlanta, GA and then moved with my family to Saint Louis, MO for high school. I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was just eight years old, and have never looked back! When I'm not teaching, I love playing with my rescue pup, Sully, cooking, and enjoying the lake or pool with friends! My husband and I just got married this past May of 2019, and he has successfully converted me into a Clemson Tigers fan. I can't wait to get to know my new students and their families! Get ready for a fantastic year!
Erika Sweet - 5th Grade Math
Hi y'all! My name is Erika Sweet, and this will be my third year teaching math, here, at GREEN Charter School. I am a fifth year teacher and recently received a graduate degree in STEAM Education. I'm beyond excited to implement all that I've learned into the classroom to make it a memorable year.
I am an avid coffee drinker (Starbucks is my second home), and I love spending time with my 'Sweet' family. This year, my son will be a kindergartner here at GREEN. We love being a part of the GREEN family, and can't wait to welcome you all into 5th grade!
Rachel Lee - 5th grade Social Studies
THello students and parents! My name is Ms. Lee. I am thrilled to be teaching 5th grade Social Studies again this year and to be a part of the GREEN Charter family. I graduated Cum Laude from USC Upstate with my B.A. in Elementary Education in May of 2018. When I am not at school, I enjoy traveling, scrapbooking, and spending time with my family, friends, and fur baby, Bella. Two of my favorite places to go are the Biltmore House and the Gulf Coast. I am so excited to have the opportunity to teach my students and guide them to learn and grow as individuals this school year. I have always been passionate about Social Studies and I hope to pass that love on to my students. I am looking forward to a wonderful year here at GREEN Charter!

Welcome to fifth grade! I am so excited to be your teacher this year! I can't wait to get to know you. My name is Mugdha Vashi. I am a fifth grade ELA teacher here at GREEN Charter School. I am so excited to start my sixth year at GREEN! I enjoy reading, painting, and gardening. I graduated from Converse College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Shortly after I graduated, my love of learning took me back to Converse to earn my Master's degree in Education. In addition, I have endorsement in Gifted & Talented education and Read to Succeed. Throughout this year, my hope is to instill a passion for lifelong learning into each child. My goal is to help my students acquire the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to become productive members of society. I will encourage students to take the initiative in their learning and present them with opportunities that will allow them to think critically. I truly believe that every child is capable of learning and achieving success if given the appropriate amount of attention, support, and guidance.
Jessica Phillips - 5th Grade
My name is Brooke Phillips and this will be my first year teaching at GREEN Charter! I am very excited to be teaching 5th grade science, and to become a part of the GREEN Charter family! I graduated Cum Laude with a B.A in Elementary Education from USC Upstate December 2018! Some of my hobbies include traveling, reading, and spending time with my family. My favorite travel destination is Hawaii! My dream travel destination right now is South Korea! Science has become a new-found love of mine! I hope spread my love of science to my students! I cannot wait to start this amazing journey with my students! Let us have a wonderful year here at Green!
John Ott, Jr - 6th Grade Social Studies
Hello! My name is John Ott, Jr. and I teach sixth grade Social Studies using a variety of primary sources, discussion, media, and technology. I have received a Master's of Education from Converse College in the field of gifted education and hold an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education by the South Carolina Department of Education. I am also a graduate of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities and attended the University of South Carolina Honors College through the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. I believe that it's important that students learn about the ideas and individuals that have shaped history so they can better understand our world today. I also think it's important that students see the connections between literature, history, math, science, and art. Let's make it a great year!
Claire Berg - 6th grade Science
Hello! I'm happy to share another great year at GREEN Charter you and your student/s! I truly enjoy teaching middle school and sharing my love of science through STEAM. Seeing the student's excitement when they make connections to the world around them is awesome! Parents are welcome to join our classroom and share their time and talents in science.

Chelsea Bolt 6th Grade Math
My name is Chelsea Bolt and I will be teaching 6th grade math for my 2nd year at GREEN Charter. I studied Education at Clemson University and have an emphasis in literacy, culture, and diversity. My goal is to help students realize their problem solving potential so they can navigate this ever changing world. I hope that these skills instill a passion for learning in the students that they will carry with them beyond the classroom. I look forward to working with you all this year solving all of types of problems, (mathematical and otherwise)!
Elizabeth Burnette - 6th grade Math
I am super excited to start my second year at GREEN Charter School! I am a graduate of Winthrop University Class of 2002. I have been teaching middle school level math since I graduated. I am so grateful and thankful to be a part of the GREEN Charter community! Looking forwarding to an amazing school year!
Angelique Piotrowsky - Middle and High School Math
My name is Angelique Piotrowsky, and I am very excited to start my third year here at GREEN Charter School as both a teacher and a parent. I am originally from Columbia, South Carolina where I lived in Cayce West Columbia and South Congaree for 11 years before moving to Belton, South Carolina. I attended Lander University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics with Secondary Certification. After Lander, I taught at Belton Middle School for one year and TL Hanna High School for eight years. This year will be my twelfth year teaching.
Along with teaching, I enjoy playing strategic board games with my husband and son. Some of our favorite games include Qwirkle, Forbidden Island, Wits and Wagers, Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock, Love Letter, and Tsuro.
I look forward to a wonderful and exciting year at GREEN Charter School.
Lauren Barth - Middle/High Social Studies
II’m from Augusta, GA and moved to Greenville in 2015 after getting married. 2019-20 will be my 6th year teaching social studies and I love being part of the GREEN family! I’ll be teaching US History, Government/Economics, World Geography, AP Human Geography, and AP European History. I’ve always had a passion for history and am always down for a conversation about the Kennedys, Teddy Roosevelt, or the 1920’s.
Nizamettin Yildiz - Middle/High Math
Hi My name is Nizamettin Yildiz and this is my third year with the GREEN Charter family. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Education/Math and then got my Master's degree in Educational Economy and Planning. I have taught Math for the past 20 years in Arizona, California, and Ohio. I also coached school math teams and had the opportunity to prepare students for a wide range of mathematical activities. I am very honored and happy to be a part of such a good team at GREEN Charter!
Jill A. Strickler - Middle & High Math
This is my 24th year of teaching Mathematics and my second year at GREEN Charter School. It is exciting to start the new year and meet all of my amazing students and their families.
Heather Fortson - Middle/High School Science
I am an Upstate native that grew up in Williamston, SC. I moved to Greenville after graduating from Lander University in 1998 with a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Science. I taught 5th, 7th, and 8th grade before staying home to raise my 2 daughters. While home with my children, I was an active volunteer in their schools. In 2014, I decided to return to the classroom.
This will be my 1st year at GREEN Charter and I can not wait to introduce your child to the world of Science! My classroom is very hands on and exploratory. Children learn best by doing and making mistakes along the way.
My husband, Travis, works for Countybank. We have 2 daughters Belle (age 17), Amelia (age 15) and 3 dogs (Jupiter, Wilsie, and Sam). Both girls are very active in sports and their school. I enjoy reading, traveling, cooking, camping, boating, stargazing, and spending time with my family and friends.
Meghan Grijalva - Middle/High ELA
My name is Mrs. Grijalva (Gree-hall-vuh), also known as Mrs. G. I am excited about this great opportunity to teach at GREEN Charter and joining a highly esteemed family. As a teacher, I believe in challenging my students not only academically, but also socially. I believe in students breaking out of the confines they have locked themselves inside of by either the pressures of society or of those of their own design. We as a society are only as strong as we are weak and I believe in teaching the whole child, not just their mind. I am a graduate of North Greenville University where I earned my Master's in teaching secondary English. I received my Bachelor's from Presbyterian College in Theatre.

Susan Johnson - High School ELA
Originally from Loves Park, Illinois, I attended Trinity College near Chicago, earning degrees in both English and History. After college, I went on to Law School at Washington University School in St. Louis, Missouri, earning a Juris Doctorate Degree. After practicing law for 27 years in Florida and South Carolina, I was given the opportunity to change careers in 2010 and have taught English and Government at the Montessori School of Anderson for the last nine years. I love my new career, have found that I love working with teenagers, and am excited to be joining the GREEN Charter team.
Jamie Macdonald - Middle/High Social Studies
My name is Mr. Jamie Macdonald. I will be teaching AP U.S. History, Social Studies and Government and Economics. I will also be coaching soccer for both the Middle School and the Upper School. I am originally from London, United Kingdom, but have been teaching in Greenville for the past three years. I look forward to an exciting up and coming school year.
Uma Mahajan - High School Science Teacher
My name is Uma Mahajan. I am originally from Mumbai, India. I completed my MS in Biochemistry from University of Mumbai. When I was pursuing my Ph.D. from Clemson University, I realized my true passion was teaching. After graduating, I taught at the Montessori School of Anderson for four years. 2019-2020 will be my first year at GREEN charter and I am excited to be a part of it. My 4yo son and 7yo daughter will also be coming to GREEN. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy cooking and reading.
Justin Stewart - Middle/High Music
Hello! My name is Justin Stewart and I am excited to be the Music Teacher at GREEN Charter School. I am a graduate of North Greenville University with a degree in K-12 Music Education. I am so passionate about music and thrilled for the opportunity to teach these amazing students.
My beautiful wife (Casey Rae) also works as a Spanish Teacher at the Upper Campus. We are new parents with an adorable 3 month old named Leilana Rae who we are enjoying so much! Looking forward to a great year!

Megan Lewis - 4K Teacher
My name is Megan Lewis. I graduated from North Greenville University in 2007 with a BA in Early Childhood Education. I’ve been teaching for 12 years. This year will be my sixth year here at GREEN Charter. I have mostly taught 2nd grade while at Green, but I’ve taught all ages from infants to 5th grade! Last year was so much fun jump starting our K4 program! I’m looking forward to another great year in K4! I love teaching this age and seeing our students learn concepts and develop a love for learning!
Connie Payne - 4K Teacher
Hi, my name is Connie Payne. This will be my fifth year at Green Charter School and I will be working in the Special Education Department. I’m really excited to be helping our students that need extra support. While here at Green, I have been a Math tutor and taught a Gateway PLTW course entitled Green Architecture.
My husband, Mark and I live in Easley. We met while attending Clemson University. I have a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson and a MAT in Elementary Education from Converse College. We have two grown daughters and one son, all of whom also graduated from Clemson. I have been teaching for 18 years, most of the time teaching Math and Science to 5Th graders.
In my spare time, I love to go visit my children and spend time with friends. In the Fall, you might find me at Clemson football games!
Kate Stevenson - 4K Teacher
My name is Kate Stevenson and am so exited to be back in K4 for my second year! I earned my bachelors in Early Childhood Education from the College of Charleston and have worked in education for several years. I am looking forward to a great new year!


Jean Marie Holmes - Art Teacher/Lower School
My name is Jean Holmes and I was born and raised in South Carolina. I started my arts career at the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in high school, then moved away to Baltimore to attend Maryland Institute, College of Art. I earned an undergraduate degree in Printmaking and a Masters of Art in Teaching. Although I loved Baltimore, I was excited to return to South Carolina to give back to my community.
I have taught at GREEN Charter School since its inaugural year. It is such a delight to teach your children year after year and see them grow as artists. It is important to me as an art teacher that each child is creative, makes their own choices, and learns how to have fun as they problem-solve. Here’s to a great year!
De'Sean Gordon - Music Teacher
I am entering my 6th year of teaching (2nd here at GREEN) and am excited to begin another great year! I was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, but I have enjoyed my time here in Greenville. A former college musician and high school band director, I hope to inspire the students and develop within them an appreciation for music and the arts! I am so excited for another year with our amazing staff and students!
Maria Medina - Spanish Teacher
My name is Maria Medina and I am very excited that this will be my first-year at Green Charter. I am a certified Spanish teacher and I have been teaching Spanish for the past three years. I am from Colombia South America and I have been living in this amazing country for the past ten years. I am very positive that your child will have a fun and exciting experience during Spanish class.
Sara Hamby - Guidance Counselor
My name is Sara Hamby. This is my fifth year serving as guidance counselor at GREEN Charter School, and it is my sixth year as a GREEN parent. I love the Mission of GREEN Charter School, and I appreciate the opportunity to be able to serve such a diverse student population. I grew up in East Tennessee and completed both a Master of Science in Sociology (2005) and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Middle Tennessee State University. I am a certified adoptions investigator, and I have worked with the Department of Social Services as well as Greenville Technical College. I have served children of all ages as well as young (and not-so-young) adults. I am active in community social justice efforts and am familiar with a variety of community resources. I hope to provide a safe and comfortable space for your children to be able to receive whatever services they may need.
Wanda A - Teacher Evaluator
I will be working with teachers at all three GREEN Charter School locations to help ensure their South Carolina Teacher Certification is current. Part of the process will be teacher observations and providing feedback to help improve instructional practices. I have a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership from the University of South Carolina. I have worked at the college level with teacher education, been a Deputy Superintendent in four school districts in South Carolina, a Principal, Assistant Principal and teacher and was Coordinator of Educator Evaluation at the South Carolina Public Charter School District. I am married to a Civil Engineer, have three adult children and their spouses and five granddaughters.
Wendy Ward - Special Education Coordinator
My name is Wendy Ward and I am thrilled about starting my 21st year in Education as GREEN Charter’s Special Education Coordinator for all of our campuses. This will be my fourth year at GREEN. I am passionate about helping students with learning differences succeed in school and in life. I hold a BA in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching Special Education, both from the University of South Carolina. In addition to teaching in various special education settings, I developed and marketed children’s educational materials at Super Duper Publications and worked as an Educational Diagnostician in Greenville County Schools. I enjoy reading, exercising, traveling (especially to the islands of the Caribbean), and spending time with my husband of 16 years, my 12 year old daughter, and 9 year old son. It is my mission to create a safe and positive learning environment for our students with differences so that they may attain academic, emotional, and social success, as well as to support our educators in helping students reach their full potential.
Jessica Harrison - ESOL Coordinator/Teacher
My name is Jessica Harrison and I am the ESOL coordinator and teacher here at GREEN. I am excited to start my 5th year teaching here! I received my BA in Early Childhood Education from North Greenville University and received my ESOL Certification from USC Upstate. I had experience teaching under privileged children before starting at GREEN.
My husband, Jimmy, and I have 2 children. Our daughter will be in K5 this year so I am excited about being a GREEN parent!

Muzeher Cakmaktepe - ESOL TeacherHello , My name is Mrs. C. I am an ESL teacher. This is my third year in Green Charter. My aim is to provide ELL (English Language Learner) students environments in which they can easily express themselves , nurture their language use, and share their cultural strengths with their friends. I believe this can be achieved by an efficient home -school partnership. Therefore, I want to say that all parents are welcome to participate in our activities. I am married , and have two kids who are also ELLs. I am looking forward to meeting with our students.
Jennifer Shriver - Read to Succeed Coordinator
My name is Jennifer Shriver and I am originally from Tallahassee, Florida. My husband, Todd, and our two teen-aged sons, have called Greenville home for over 16 years now. We love to travel, hike, and enjoy music together.
I have enjoyed teaching at Green for the past six years, first as a teacher to students in first grade and now as Reading Coach. Before coming to Green, I taught for Anderson District One and Greenville County Schools. I have a BA in English with a concentration in Writing from The University of South Carolina. I earned my SC teaching credential at Clemson University in Early Childhood Education. I am certified for Gifted and Talented Education and Early Childhood Education.
I am fortunate to have completed training and volunteered with The Augustine Project in Greenville. This organization trained me to help students having trouble reading through a multi-sensory method/blend of Orton Gillingham and Wilson reading methods. I enjoy working with teachers on reading instruction in their classrooms as well as assisting students who need extra time working on building reading skills.
Hannah Banks - Reading Interventionist
I am so excited to be a part of the Reading team at Green Charter School again this year! I was born and raised in Sumter, SC, where my parents still reside. I graduated from North Greenville University in 2011 with a B.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education. My husband of five years and I live in Travelers Rest with our son, Abram (he will be 2 in October), and our dog Jack. I love reading, traveling, and spending time with my little family! I have been teaching within the early childhood field for the past 9 years and this will be my 6th year at Green! During my first four years at Green I taught first grade and this will be my second year as a part-time Reading Interventionist (and part-time stay at home Mommy)! It is my calling to teach children and it is my purpose to facilitate a nurturing environment in which all the students I work with can reach their full potential as readers. I am thrilled to be a part of Green Charter School, and I am looking forward to another spectacular year!
Cheryl Richey - Speech Therapist
I am thrilled to begin my second year as part of the GREEN family! As the speech-language pathologist, I enjoy assisting my students become successful communicators. It’s a joy seeing my students progress!
I am a transplant to the beautiful city of Greenville, having moved here from Southern California in 2018. I attended CSU Long Beach where I earned my B.A. and M.A. in Communicative Disorders and Speech Pathology. I’ve worked with both adults and children throughout my career. I am married to my wonderful husband Greg and have two grown children. I love spending time with family and exploring my new surroundings.
I have truly enjoyed my first year at GREEN and look forward to the 2019-20 school year!
Kayla Storm - Lower School Secretary
My name is Kayla Storm and I have two daughters that attend GREEN, an 8th grader and a 5th grader. This will be my 3rd year at GREEN and I can’t wait to meet all the new parents and kids and see all the returning faces. My family and I are huge Disney World fanatics! We also really enjoy taking trips to the beach and the mountains. When I am not chauffeuring my girls to and from after school activities, I really enjoy reading. I am looking forward to another wonderful year with all of our GREEN family!
Elizabeth Rollyson - Lower School Secretary
My name is Elizabeth Rollyson and I am excited to say that 2019-2020 will be my third year as GREEN Charter's Lower School Secretary. The wonderful families, students and teachers of GREEN can't be beat! I have two very active kids and 3 dogs. My son will be in the 9th grade this year and my daughter is a dental assistant for an orthodontist in Columbia, SC. My degree is in Psychology and I love working with adults and children every day.
Ellen Goldman - Reading Interventionist
My name is Ellen Goldman and I am thrilled to be joining The Green Charter School as a part-time Reading Interventionist.
I am originally from White Plains, NY. My family moved to Greenville when I was 17, in 1975. I am a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where I earned a BA in elementary education. I taught off and on in Greenville County as I raised my children, a daughter 33 and a son 28. I have been married to Dale Goldman for 34 years.
For the past 17 years I have been the owner and director of Carolina Academy for Educational Excellence. On July 17, 2019, I will close the Academy doors, but happily another door has opened allowing me to return to my roots, and that is working directly with students.
In my spare time I love to cook, bake bread, and most recently my husband and I have been making our own pizzas!!!

- I graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College in 2001 with associate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies of Early Childhood Development.
- In 2013, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development from Kaplan University.
- I earned my Masters in the Art of Teaching Elementary Education at Anderson University in 2018.
- When I am not working with children I enjoy my family and travel the world.

Sandie Thompson - Paraprofessional
Hello, My name is Sandie Brownlee-Thompson. I am beyond excited to be joining Green Charter School this year, as a SPED Paraprofessional. I have been teaching for over 15 years. It has truly been a blessing working with children. I love teaching them and watching them learn and grow. Teaching is definitely my passion. I look forward to spending the year getting to know all of the children that I will be working with. I graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2010 and I have a degree in Business. I am from Spartanburg, SC, born and raised. My husband and I have been married for a year. We are high school sweethearts. In my spare time, I love shopping, cooking, binge watching my favorite shows and spending time with my family. I am excited for this amazing journey ahead!
Kara Clas - Speical Education Teacher
My name is Kara Clas and I am excited to be joining the GREEN Charter family! This will be my seventh year in teaching students with learning differences. I previously taught in Columbia, S.C. and Charlotte, N.C. I received my bachelor’s degree and Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of South Carolina. My husband and I just moved to Greenville, S.C. in June and we are excited to be a part of this community. I love working with children and seeing them learn and grow. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, hiking, reading, traveling, and taking care of my pets. I am looking forward to a wonderful year and getting to know the GREEN Charter staff and families.
Makesha Duncan - Yoga Teacher
I am very happy to be teaching yoga as an elective this year. This will be my 4th year at Green Charter. I became a certified yoga instructor in 2005 and have also completed courses at Mindful Schools to be a Mindful Educator. I am looking forward to a great year!
